Becoming Catholic?
Yes! We are glad you are here and happy to help you take the next steps. Whether you are new to Church stuff or been going all your life WELCOME!
Those seeking to join the Catholic Church go through a process called Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA).

Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA)
(Formally called "R"CIA so as we update the name in various places be patient and know the names are really synonymous. The difference is technical as "R" or "rite" refers to liturgical ceremony while "O" or "order" refers to a group of people.)

OCIA helps adults and young adults learn about the Catholic Faith and prepare them for the initiation sacraments that are typically celebrated at the Easter Vigil Mass, in the Spring. OCIA is a process with many stages and elements to help people inquire and decide about joining the Catholic Church.

Candidates and their sponsors meet together for formal learning sessions on Sunday mornings (9am-10:30am) (with option upon request). Weekly formal learning sessions begin in September and go through the Easter Season (May). Informal inquiry options are available all year round for anyone. Inquiry sessions (July-August) held Tuesday evenings from 7-8:15pm. Inquiry sessions by appointment Sept-June. Any are welcome!

If you have questions or interest in joining OCIA, please contact Chris Kuhn
at (952) 469-6480 or [email protected]

Participants include:
  • Inquirers: Those who are not yet baptized and interested in joining the Catholic Church.
  • Candidates: Those baptized in another Christian denomination preparing to become Catholic with celebrating Confirmation and First Eucharist
  • Catechumens: Those accepted into formal preparation period and preparing to become Catholic through celebrating sacraments of initiation; baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist.
  • Catholics who were baptized Catholic, but not yet confirmed, preparing to celebrate their Confirmation, and perhaps First Eucharist.
  • Catholics that want to learn more.

More Parish Sponsors are NEEDED to participate in RCIA as a support to those who are preparing for sacraments. Confirmed, practicing Catholics are eligible.

Order of Christian Initiation of Children (OCIC)

Ages 7 - 17

Families with children age 7-17 who would like to prepare for Baptism are prepared for the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist) through the Order of Christian Initiation for Children (OCIC). These sacraments are received at Easter. Given different ages and developmental needs we access and respond to each candidate.

Plans and schedules are made on an individual basis. Contact Karl or Chris to discuss a plan for your child.
