Segment One: Building Community
"The good shepherd calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice." John 10:3-4.
What are we trying to teach, communicate, or hand on though Faith Formation? Our goal is to bring young people "into communion with the person of Jesus Christ" (CT 5). Since God is a community of persons, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and we are made in His image, we are made for community. We want to provide youth at All Saints with a lived experience of community - this is the reason for Discipleship Teams at All Saints. Learning to be a disciple takes a team - it takes a family. It is through these relationships that we learn, support one another, and call each other forward in a life a faith.
Discipleship Teams - How They Work on Canva
"Telling is not teaching." As a Discipleship Team Leader, it's your role to help facilitate this process of building community through concrete actions. Through your efforts to build relationships with the youth in your Discipleship Team, you are modeling community for them. This allows our methods - how we teach - to match our content - the what we are teaching. Our method reflects our content; God as a relationship of persons, who wants to be in relationship with each of us through the person of Jesus Christ. Below are the steps we have put in place to help you do this within your Discipleship Team. These steps were shown in the video as well.
- Meet each person at the door and greet them by name.
- Have discussion questions available when they arrive to allow them to get to know the others on their team.
- The Opening Prayer, (or "Collect") will be the same for all grades, and reflects the opening prayer at Mass.
