Think for a moment of the hundreds the thousands maybe even the tens of thousands of people that you've met throughout your life - people that you've introduced yourself to. For most of us it's easier to ask the question when meeting a new person where do you work? what do you do? It can be much more difficult to ask a more fundamental question who are you but this question is much more important you see there's a philosophical principle that says follows being what I do flows from who I am. So what would you say if someone asks you who you are?  We get a glimpse have this answer in the gospel today in those first five words of the Gospel most of the gospels that we here at Sunday mass begin with these five words that we heard today and particularly the fit is very instructive Jesus said to his disciples this was the audience that Jesus was speaking to in The Goth and he had a particular message for this group you see he spoke differently to the Pharisees and the Sadducees spoke differently to those On The Fringe  and he spoke differently still to his Apostles and is that message that he spoke today to his Apostles to his disciples  he spoke a message of instruction telling what they should do as disciples  what were they to do they were to forgive one another they were to bear with one another they were to pray with one another not giving up on each other this was Jesus his words today to his disciples and Jesus has a word for us today to a word for the disciples here at All Saints in Lakeville Minnesota and this word might be challenging to one of us  but as we heard in the song today if today you hear his voice Harden not your hearts  you see you may have noticed that over the last few years the Holy Spirit has been erecting the parish here at All Saints in a pic a particular direction we don't say volunteer how do you notice that  we say instead Mission partner because the phrase when partner gets more at the heart of who we are you see a partner for the gospel is more engage a partner belongs much more than a volunteer might I volunteer still might be on the sidelines still not fully committed even though they help occasionally  so we're changing the way we speak here because of the Holy Spirit at All Saints and the Holy Spirit is also instructing us of how to act as disciples at All Saints one example we're taking the festival to the front lawn next week this is a purposeful action that the Holy Spirit has let us too why would we do this because brothers and sisters we don't want our brothers and sisters in Lakeville to see just as those disciples up on the hill who just stay up on the hill  we want to be seen as Desai pulls on a mission disciples who come down from the hill and our present with our brothers and sisters in the community so here at our Parish we've been learning from the Holy Spirit more about who we are as disciple and what we do as disciples and what is a disciple ultimately disciple of course as a follower of Jesus who is engaged a disciple has belonging a disciple like you've seen and some of the literature that we sent you in the mail like you've seen on the screens here at church on the posters takes root and bears fruit it even Rhymes which helps us remember it a bit unless you say root and then it really doesn't rhyme that well so suspend that if if you're in the habit of saying route battle takes root and a disciple bears fruit first taking route how can we as disciples at all Saints take root there are many opportunities that are Parish we have a Eucharistic adoration Chapel 24 hours a day we could take a holy for once a week there in the chapel we could sign up for Bible studies small groups adult Faith formation sign our children up for youth faith for there are lots of opportunities here that we can be engaged connected to Jesus the True Vine and that we would set Roots deep here in our faith but disciple also bears fruit a disciple goes out bearing group in our church yes the bearing fruit in our community in our world and there's opportunities here at the parish to invest as well in bearing fruit maybe you sign up for a teaching position and catechism or you sign up for some liturgical roll some this going on mission trips giving of yourself sacrificially making a sacred gift to the Lord even today we're taking a second collection because that's what disciples do Disciples give of themselves especially when others are in need especially when our brothers and sisters in Houston are hurting we give sacrificially of our finances yes but of our very lives so that those people in Houston who are hurting would know that there are disciples here at All Saints in Lakeville who love them who love them as their neighbors these are ways that we bear fruit in our community and in our world  so what's the next step for us today in discipleship  you may have noticed there are booths going down the hallway here on the first floor and there are more booths downstairs in Murphy Hall  there are opportunities today in our discipleship weekend to make an act of Interest take a step of Faith so if you have some interest some desire in being a more faithful disciple I decide who takes root and bears fruit we encourage you to visit one or a couple of the moves today get some more information just Play Over the month of September how the Holy Spirit might be calling you to more faithful discipleship and then we'll have a commitment weekend in but if you're ready to commit today by all means sign up  so making this first step of faith our next step to go to the booze when you do that you're going to get a sticker we all like stickers right I got one here on the back of my stole it's got the new All Saints logo on it you're going to get a sticker when you visit any of the booze and that stickers going to be good for a free omelette breakfast for your family today I've already had mine it was excellent so go downstairs visit some booze get your omelette the Lord has the Holy Spirit how he might be calling you to Greater discipleship But ultimately brothers and sisters we know that these arm aren't free  they may not be paid for with your wallet today but they're not free  the cost of ship is our very lives  intentional discipleship commitment living the life the guy coldest to it's hard it involves the cross Jesus Christ leads us with this cement of his death but also this instrument of his life there is no life worth living brothers and sisters start from the cross without the cross without the sacrifice of our entire lives there is no life there's only assistance  action follows being if we call ourselves disciples let's live as disciples
