a while back I was within earshot of a conversation among a handful of our young people here at at All Saints when they were they were conversing about some of the challenges that they that they were facing in in their life and and one of them in the in the group bonded and I heard him say those are first world problems those are first world problems and I have to tell you I am pressed my off by being able to figure out what this phrase first world problem meant just in the context of the conversation because I had no idea never heard of before I never heard anyone use that that phrase but those of you who haven't okay many of you maybe have essentially went with what this guy was essentially do is reminding the the the other the other young people in the group that the the kinds of things that they were that that they were facing the challenges at least that they were bringing up in that in that particular environment where were the sorts of things that really that really aren't that big a deal and when we compare the kinds of things we might be experiencing a particularly materially and economically and things like that with what most of the world experiences every day in their life actively those things really aren't that big a deal they just aren't that aren't that big a deal but whether we see or perceive the challenges and play in the burdens if you will of our life as first world problems or something that might go a little bit deeper than that we all have them I'll have them where they were in the first world or the third world we all we all have these these things that we carry these burdens that we carry and obviously the the the scripture reading or Gospel reading today's is very very familiar in and offered well use gospel passage that that reminds us that Jesus wants us to take these burdens to him he really does but the but the way the church gives us the the outline of the readings and sets us up for that that the passing set of our burdens to the Lord actually be actually start their rooted in who the person of Jesus is alright that starts with a prophecy the prophecy of Jesus coming into the world in in Zechariah and it's the it's a reminder that the king the king of the world who will come to the world will be humble he will be humble he will come in on not on a knot on the powerful horse but a much more humble animal and he will be the one to usher in the this this world that we all desire world of a world of Peace the world of of us being able to being able live together but it all begins and humility begins with it with a king who is humble a king that doesn't come in to him who's his will does not come in to exercise his power over unwilling subjects it's not that right and then as we we get into Gospel reading in Jesus is praying to the father on behalf he's he's offering a prayer of praise and a very familiar formula of of Prayer in in scriptural times he's he's reminding them that God in his goodness has revealed two little ones he's revealed to the humble this truth and in this mystery the powerful can't see it the powerful don't realize it and what the powerful don't realize is the fact that there is a Ford right in front of them that wants to take on the challenges and the burdens that they are experiencing in their life and then he says this this beautiful beautiful passage which I use and I suspect father Chad and Father Tim well if they have it yet in their in their short experience in the in the turn all but this beautiful scripture passage that says come to me all you who are weary and fine life burdensome but I will give you rest take my yoke upon twin learn from me for I am gentle and humble of Hearts you will find rest you'll find rest in the Lord it is a it is a soling and an inspiring word at the same time consoling because of the reality of the burdens that we all carry in our life that we desire to to Simply hand over and give to the Lord consoling because no matter where those burdens came from play they come from the interactions of daily life and just having to having a muscle through everyday of our life or they've come from the reality of Our Own shortcomings faults failures and sins they are still there is still the invitation that open and and always clear invitation for the Lord for to turn them over to him to turn them over to him but often and frankly in in in in my Ministry I realize in the end my own life I realized not always quick to turn these things over to God just not right culturally I think call DNA we are tots we are taught by the world that we live in that the burdens that we experience the first place that we go to resolve them is ourselves we go to ourselves to fix them if we just do it right it will get fixed I have messed this thing up with my own fault and my own sin therefore I must fix it when we and we we don't immediately turn it over to God it's the it's it's the way that that that we are that that we are taught in the culture in which we I have an alot of us might have person that personal dispositions that really feed into that but the truth is Jesus asks us to bring this stuff to him and why don't we why don't we I suspect that there's a there's a couple of different things that go on in the mystery of our hearts that prevent us from doing that one is do we really trust him do we really trust and believe that the Lord who says Tate I will take on your burdens really well does he does he really mean that yes he does he wants us to bring them to him and in and then I think wonder I think we wonder because we for for whatever for whatever reason we live in the in this in this place of of of not complete total trust that would Jesus wants us to do for our own well-being right that that will actually happen and II the second thing and I think it's as as real as as anything else as he calls us to turn over these burdens no matter what their source causes to turn them over alright there's also another side to the equation he says then turn the burns over and then take on my yoke take on my yoke right the yolk obviously is the device that that brings Direction the device that allows them the Lord's to be tend to provide the direction in our lives and I suspected that in the in in the midst of the darkness of our own Hearts there's a piece of that and there's a there's a place the enemy will will prowl in and say wait a minute if you do this if you take these burdens if you take the heaviness of your life turn it over to him that he's got your life and you can't make your own decisions anymore and you will no longer be in control and the truth is the truth is it is a humble humble act to say Lord take on my burdens and now I really Seminole ow you to be in control I will take on this easy yo and this light burden because I trust in you and I believe in you I believe that you are truly asking me to do this I didn't probably will we could all get to a place in our life or say yes take the burden take the burden from me Lord I would love for you to do that alright take it from me but then taking the Y insane all right now you're in charge that might be a considerably more difficult thing in our lives will be wonderful wonderful exercise in our in our week and just the routine daily prayer to take a few minutes of of of Four Season with the Lord to say okay Lord what are the burdens in my life that I am hanging on to what are they asking to to reveal them real them to us and then simply in your own words say okay take it on and the truth is we all carry them some of us may be better than others how about turning them over but I suspect most of us are probably also carrying things in our Inn in our hearts and in our lives that we might not even dies anymore they could be buried so deep in the heart and so deep in it into it into a memory someplace where we don't even know what they are and those in many ways can become the most dangerous cuz we have no idea that they're even there we all carry burdens we all struggle whether they where do they have come from Life circumstances where they they have come from our own from our own sins and pass in mistakes and and all that even though they've been forgiven we still should have listened and and and hang on to those things the Lord wants us to turn them over to him a matter where they came from all of us experienced burdens and we can maybe joke about it and call them first world problems or not and whether we consider them very very large or very very insignificant it doesn't matter the Lord wants them all the lore who wants them all and wants us to trust him enough to actually turn them over and then take on the yo whether the problems in the burdens that experience our first world or not all we are asked to do is humble ourselves enough to take the heaviness of our lives in the burdens experience turn them over to the Lord and then accept the Yoke of his Direction in our lives
