Confirmation Prep

TWICE A MONTH ON SUNDAYS 10:30am- noon  OR WEDNESDAYS 6:30-8pm

PARENT KICK-OFF SESSION SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 24 7:00-8:30PM IN MURPHY HALL
ALL PARENTS ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND.

In the Archdiocese of St. Paul/Minneapolis, the normative age for the celebration of Confirmation is 16 years of age or older.
As with other Sacraments, All Saints recognizes the significant impact that parents, family, and other key adults have on the lives of those seeking to mature in faith. All Saints Catholic Church also expects that those choosing to be Confirmed desire full participation in the parish community. With this in mind, the parish has established the following structure for Confirmation preparation. Below are the main commitments for Confirmation Preparation. Our program is a 2-year program as required by the Archdiocese. All our Confirmation young people will have an option of attending either on Sunday mornings or Wednesday evenings.
  • First: All young people are to be engaged in either the parish Faith Formation (full two years) or attending an accredited Catholic High School in the area. A young person starts with year 1 and will be Confirmed at the end of year 2. All parents of a young person preparing for Confirmation are asked to attend a parent meeting at the beginning of the year.
  • Second: Young people are committing to attend one overnight retreat in their two years of Confirmation preparation. Young People may attend an overnight retreat both years if wanted. Sign up for the Spiritus Retreat is located on the side panel.
  • Third: Students, in year 2,  and an adult partner (parent, mentor, or Confirmation sponsor) will attend Confirmation Candidate Sponsor Gatherings. January (Confirmed as Disciples), April (Gifted in the Spirit) and May (Go Forth and Bear Witness).
  • Fourth: Students, in year 2, will complete an at-home journal that includes written reflection on requirements for Confirmation including the Sunday Gospels, involvement in the life of the parish, their Confirmation name, their Confirmation sponsor, and their readiness for the Sacrament. In the Sacrament of Confirmation, initiation into the Christian life is completed so that believers are strengthened by the power of the Holy Spirit to live lives that bear witness to Christ in word and deed. The Sacrament of Confirmation is conferred through the profession of faith, the laying on of hands, and anointing with Chrism.

The celebration of this Sacrament usually takes place at the Cathedral of St. Paul, enhancing the understanding of this Sacrament as grace given and received by the broader Catholic Church.
