last evening in the Sacristy before Mass we had at least three generations maybe even a fourth represented and we all agreed on something everyone everyone agreed that changing behaviors is hard changing behaviors is hard and those of us who are a little older reminder the younger ones do it now because it will get more difficult as you get older but the truth is that all of us agreed and understood the reality that that she changing behaviors is hard it is it is difficult to write just going to ask you two to ask God in in in quiet to to reveal to you a time in your own life for time somebody that you that you love experience and then responded to a call to change in behavioral of changing behaviors probably has a unique iterations in and not in people's lives I've been offered 30 came in after 3 I think pretty pretty common trajectories and Inspirations and motivations for for changing behavior all right the first one is something that we experienced in the in the prodigal son today somebody experiences a disaster in their life okay we experienced some sort of disaster and we don't want it to repeat until we recognized that that changes have to be made a lot of maybe Health crisis whatever we recognized some some change needs to be be made and it is a reaction to an immediate crisis or disaster in our life the second one is related to it but it might be recognized a little bit a little bit sooner okay a lot of Health situations lifestyle situations and people try to get on the path and we we we recognize you know what if I stay on this path I know that it's it's not going to end well in in Thor or otherwise so we so we make the we make the changes we make the lifestyle changes that are that that are necessary even if they they might be somewhat difficult or the third one is is he will come through a third-party alright somebody recognizes somebody who loves us recognizes that something needs to change something in our life needs to change patterns of behavior I have brought negative consequences and end in somebody outside says it's got to change or it's going to get worse and worse and worse all right and probably the most common place we would see that is in the reality of addiction that somebody somebody acknowledge his family members recognize somebody is is struggling with addiction and they intervene and they say you know what change has to happen to havior has to change there's got to be some intercession and and help are given so that change can happen so something worse doesn't happen relationally physically and psychologically spiritually whatever okay until we have these we have these three General patterns of people responding to the need to check okay in spiritual life we call that conversion all right conversion of Hearts conversion of heart and we see that in the end in the scriptures today in terms of the interns are the called conversion especially in the prodigal son all right where it where change is change is necessary change happens all right and we we talked about earlier early in the year alright the AAA pattern of of of conversion that we set that we recognize in the spiritual life three levels or stages of conversion write the first one OK that first stage of conversion we called spiritual conversion which is soul recognizes that we need God okay we just record we recognize the reality that we need God all right the second one is what we would call moral conversion behavioral conversion because of this guy that we now know we realised that there are certain behaviors that we must do certain behave that we must avoid it's behavioral okay it's very very observable we recognize that and we move on that conversion and in the final stage of conversion intellectual conversion where we give ourselves completely and totally to God mine body and spirit okay those are that those are the three levels of introversion right and our story of the prodigal son we we we recognize that he's he's probably got that that that situation in which he experiences dire need any experience was the first two levels to stages of conversion I think if we look back or right he does this disastrous thing he sends against his father and and and and takes off with it with with his money and and waste sent it and squanders it and ends up in what seems to be a very very short. Of time with with nothing and is an absolute dire situation immediate crisis right immediate in the midst of that prices he realizes that life is going to be much better with his father than it is now okay he recognizes a need for the father right and then actually he actually moves into some behavioral change in which he did when she comes back to the father and he under cells of course what the what what the father will do in terms of in Father rejoicing that he's come back he's not punishing him not putting it back to the bottom of the totem pole within the within the estate and all of that and so he experiences he experienced a spiritual as well as moral conversion and changing his changing his behavior all right for the interaction between between the father and the son demonstrate something that is absolutely essential and understood in any faith that responds to the the old guy in our the real living revealed God to us into judeo Christian understanding of God all right and every single one of us with any sort of biblical understanding an orthodox understanding the way God interacts with his people will agree with this alright God moves first alright God moves first the sun's return to the father is directly related to the father's gays being on the sun all right God moves first and everybody who understands the reveal God's will will will agree on that right we may have we may have discrepancies and disagreements in India sales in terms of the response and what that means and all that sort of thing but everybody who understands the reveal God understands it is absolute God moves first and God move in the in the in the story of the prodigal God moves first his eyes never left the sun his love never stopped despite the sun's infidelity that is the whole point the right it's the whole point van hansis the son responded to the son got into this dire consequence of his terrible Behavior but the father never stopped loving and the father are rejoicing at his return but it's also pretty clear I think in the interaction in the image that all the while the father never stopped loving and never took his gaze off the son that the sun actually did have to do some something he had to do something he had to pick himself up and make a move back towards the father he had to show up and be in the presence of the father that's how he works big guys and then experience the fullness of the grace of his renewal with him and with his family it was a response to God's initial movement the father's initial movement that allowed him to experience the fullness of Mercy the fullness of Grace and reunification with the father but he had to do something right and it's kind of our understanding I we we we started in bones as Catholics understand that we don't just sit okay we don't just sit we under we want understand and believe the father moves us but we can also have to move towards him God moves first God doesn't disappear despite our sin and infidelity but there is a requirement of action of movement of showing up if you will to see and experience the oldest of that breaks that I can't think of a more perfect example living example of that than the reality of Jesus present in the Eucharist think about it the spider infidelity to spider disappear despite her saying intentionally or consciously or unconsciously that we really don't need the community we really don't need God that much team never leave he never leaves he is always present nothing changes about the presence of Jesus in the Eucharist it's he's out here today and gone tomorrow he doesn't disappear because you and I might be unfaithful he doesn't I'm a difference then and the calls can version is a response and Anna and hopefully and understanding that he is there he doesn't change his love doesn't change but we are still called to show up to show up participate in a experience the fullness of what the reveal God wants us to experience we are called All right we are all called to conversion conversion change is difficult is absolutely unequivocally with three generations of people that it wasn't difficult at all to to understand and agree with that but we also have to realize we don't do it by ourselves okay we do do it by ourselves God moves first God provides the grace but we got to respond we have to respond we have to say yes we have to move we've got to show up we've got to show up and when we show up when we should respond when we move when we recognize live believe and trust that his love never abandoned us then we can leave out the fullness of what he has called us to do individual we see in our first rated from excess would called obviously to conversion individually but we're also reminded that this is a communal reality as well okay alright the story Texas remind the entire Community abandoned God for a false god of golden calf alright the entire community did that God is very frustrated by it Moses receive you and I live in cultural historical era in which largely there's an abandonment of God community and culturally maybe not among us as individuals but we got it we got to understand and know that the call to conversion write the call to change is to us as individuals absolutely unequivocally but it's also us to us as a family as a world and as a community to respond I just buy moralized but recognizing the fullness of God that he wants to participate with us his love and his presence doesn't change it does not end when we recognize that when we act when we show up then we will be able to experience the joy of God rejoicing in his people returning to him and filling us with a fullness of Grace and be strengthened to do exactly what he asks us to do in our lives
