today's Gospel is about gratitude and it's about faith last Sunday Our Gospel was about faith you know it reminds me of a story of a Presa got up one morning and Sunday morning and he said today I want to talk about fact and safe it is a fact that I'm still can hear speaking it is a fact that you are sitting in the pews but it is faith that makes me believe you might listen to what I have to say well what is Faith last week you know remember our gospel last week very troubling because it began with the apostles going to Jesus and saying increase our faith what were they asking how can Jesus increase their faith tracers an inside job it's just like me saying help me to love you more can't make me love you but you can act and in performing a certain way speaking a certain way that you are attractive in it and I want to follow you but you know why did the Apostles asked Jesus to increase their faith well what is faith well of course if we have faith in someone we trust them we trust them totally put my faith in you also face means loyalty I will be loyal to everything that you stand for faith is also believing in that person and believing in their word well what more could Jesus do to increase their faith this is the 17th picture of Luke where 3/4 of the other way through the Gospel of Luke Jesus has preached with authority he has healed the sick the blind see the deaf hear the mute speaker the crippled pick up there Matteson walk. people from the dead what more could Jesus do what were they asking of him increase our faith or were they troubles what are they worried about their own loyalty were they worried about their ability to listen to his words and then follow them remember in the Gospel of John chapter we're told many many of the disciples left him and went home because his teachings were too difficult were the apostles afraid that they might not be able carry out the mission what are they lacking somehow and total trust in God was she the apostles never did get it not until Pentecost should I try to raise from the dead and on Pentecost is when the apostles got it and their face was complete their commitment was total because that's what Jesus is looking for he wants commitment no remember in the third chapter of Revelation the the angel of the church is speaking and she's saying oh how I wish you were hot or cold but you are neither hot or and so I spit you out because you are lukewarm Chase's doesn't want a lukewarm relationship he wants total commitment from us he gave himself totally God bestows on us wish upon Grace St Paul writes Grace upon Grace blessing upon blessing and what is Grace Grace is God's love what is love if you look up the word love in the Webster dictionary just concerned for another God has such a great concern Jesus loved us so much concern so much for our Eternal salvation that he came to die for us and all he at she has to do is to receive this gift of Grace cheap Grace is a gift given freely no charge St Paul Grace upon Grace blessing upon blessing have we accepted the gift let's say that I know that you want something very special and I know that it's good for you and I know this life changing it change your life forever it'll be the best gift you ever got and so I go and I I get this gift for you and I wrap it in a beautiful Bowl in the nice box packaging and I offer it to you though is my gift to you I know it's going to make you happy it'll be the best gift you've ever received or will ever receive but if you don't accept my gift it's not a gift a gift is not a gift until it's accepted so if you reject my gift then there is no gift so God bestows his grace his love upon us he gives it to us his gift to us the gifted return but we don't have to accept it we can reject it we can turn away and walk away from God's teaching but if my faith is such that I believe totally in Christ I trust God totally with my life I will be loyal to him and his church forever was she that's my reception of his gift God's gift to us his grace our response to it is faith if we respond to God's then accept it and listen and follow Jesus teachings we have faith and that was our example today Wasn't There Were Ten lepers remember Jesus was coming from Galilee down through Samaria he came to this town and it was ten lepers standing outside the gate well leprosy at the time of Jesus was almost a death sentence sometimes it was worse than death because you were ostracized from everybody you are not allowed to be in in the community you could not go to your place of worship you're going to have to go to the temple you cannot be with your family the only people you could have sociate with what other lepers and you saw people coming you have to call out leper leper and then they would walk around and make sure that they gave you a wide berth rejection I can't imagine that kind of Life of isolation the only ones you could be with what other lepers and today were told it was 10 of them and they cried out to Jesus Jesus Master have pity on us and Jesus said go show yourselves to the priests because the priests were the ones they would have to certify whether they were cleansed and clean it up to come back into the community and on their way they artist they were healed and the one man noticing he was healed was filled with gratitude and he went back and he sought out and Found Jesus steady prostrated before him any saint Jesus thank you for healing me his statement was a statement of total Faith because only God could heal and then we hear the sadness in Jesus voice he says we were there not ten that I healed where are they weather 9 is this the only one that came back to say thank you and he's the Samaritan he's a pagan the other nine would use so we can hear the disappointment when we don't accept and receive God's grace and say thank you that's all God wants us to do is to say thank you and to recognize that he is The Giver of everything in the book Exodus when God led the Israelites out of slavery and through Moses he proclaimed that I want you to give when you get to your Promised Land you get to that life that I promised you I want you to remember that I'm the one that gave it to you and I want you to do this in remembrance you are to the first 10% of everything you have all your possessions are to be given to the temple given to God's house so that worship could continue and the poor could be served cheap daughter's looking for total commitment not a lukewarm relationship where we accept everything from God and then failed to say thank you or fail to knowledge that everything we have comes from God to we didn't create one thing God created everything humans don't create anything we just discover what God has already put their and show me Michelle always in all ways Melody remember that God is The Giver of all things and I then need to show my appreciation my thankfulness my gratitude by returning something back to his church so that his name can be continually made known and loved until the end of time every year the church has different times when they remind us that we have a commitment to God and to his church and this Sunday is commitment Sunday you've all received a pledge cards in the mail many of you have completed them and return them but at this time they'll be an opportunity there's cards in the in the Pew that you'll have an opportunity to reflect on how God has been so good to me and what can I do what can I give back to God showing my appreciation showing my gratitude saying thank you God for all the blessings that you have bestowed upon me and then after you fill them out we have to be musketeer that you can come forward and place them in the basket
