my son's Do Not Disturb in the discipline of the Lord or lose heart when we prove by him for whom the Lord loves he disciplines he scourges every son he acknowledged enjoy your trials as discipline for what son is there whom the father does not discipline at the time all discipline seems a cause not for Joy but for pain yet later it means peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who are trained by it these words from our second reading today to the Hebrews are challenging and a difficult message for us to embrace what could the Lord be speaking to us today in the scriptures we as a society think of discipline is something that is painful and not desirable we actually try to avoid much suffering and often times choose not to embrace it we know that this suffering or discipline is part of our life each one of us has suffering in our life and we know of suffering in the lives of others the suffering any forms it could be a young child with a terminal illness a teenager involved in an accident and is paralyzed a couple going through a divorce and the children have lasting scar in the process being unemployed or underemployed or caring for a dying parent and there are many other painful situations each one of us experience suffering and we wonder why this is in our life why dear God do you allow this why do we have to go through this is very how cold for us especially in the moment to see the joy through the suffering to see that it will bring about good fruit in our lives or in the lives of others in Philippians we hear always be joyful because you belong to the Lord I say it again rejoice don't worry about anything no matter what happens tell God about everything ask and pray and give thanks to him think God's peace will watch over your hearts and your minds he will do this because you belong to Jesus Christ God's peace is never to be completely understood that's from Philippians 4 I have a friend jerryanne who is born in Iowa move to Hastings and then to Prescott Wisconsin and loved living in the country as a farm girl she love the hard work of farm life and considered herself in accomplished Martha she found a wonderful husband and moved to the cities where she began to raise a family in 2002 she started getting severe headaches and was eventually taken to the hospital by ambulance cheerleader found out that she had a brain tumor and was on the brink of a seizure that could kill her the diagnosis was to do immediate surgery if she lived chica blind or not able to talk or walk she cried out to God and asked him if his brain tumor could be healed or removed by the doctors so that she should care for her young family this was her heart's desire to be able to care for her young children not to leave them without a mother to care for them the surgery seemed to go successfully with no vision or physical pyramids however in 2005 the doctors discovered that they did not get all the tumors and proceeded with radiation treatment then over the next several years SR5 children grew up she had four more surgeries and found out that the tumors could not be totally removed the diagnosis jerriann would be going blind many people have been praying for Jerry and she told me that she could actually feel when people were praying for her she lives and she feels peaceful Moschino the Lord Jesus as a personal friend as recently as April of this year she had another me radiation treatment and it was a very difficult recovery jerriann is now at the point where she cannot receive and recover from any future surgeries or radiation treatments it's just too harsh for her she told me that this suffering Journey has been a blessing a joy and I asked why is that she told me that she finds comfort in being still and knowing that God is God there is a certain joy in her suffering accepting it as God's plan for her life Jerry and proceeded to tell me that her value not in what she does being that Martha for many many other people but for being the daughter that she was created to be for jeriann this is quite a contrast from her familiar jerriann is called to be a Mary sitting at the feet of Jesus and talking with him within this past year Jerry and praying and she heard an audible voice of God who said would it be enough for you to be Anna she replied Anna who she did not know any Anna's it eventually came to her that there was an Anna in the Bible the woman who spent days and nights in the temple waiting I'm praying for the baby Jesus yes the voice confirmed could you be Ana if blind was the response that she heard 1 a friend of Jerry an an artist who paints icons of saints presented jeriann with a beautiful painting the artist knew nothing of the conversation Jerry had Jerry and had with God about being Anna much to Jerry and surprise it was an icon of Saint Anna what a confirmation for jeriann to be Anna Jerry Ann has caught a glimpse of understanding of what God might be doing in her life she prayed often but now her prayer has evolved into a conversation with god prepares to sit down and talk with God this is a major change in her life and has given her a special purpose she told me that prayer is simply talking to God often throughout the day chicks presses her true feelings thoughts and takes Delight in talking with God as any two friends who have known each other for many years Jerry Ann's suffering this suffering journey of hers is only temporary she knows it's she will be seeing God face to face she has much whole and has been now some understanding on how she can live her life the suffering life God has he'll to her that his purpose for her is to reach out to people who are spiritually blind God is using her to her physical blindness to be available for others she's had many people approached her including me asking her why she's so lovingly in braces this suffering she knows that her father in Heaven loves her and only wants what's best for her she told me that she is experiencing with the letter to the Hebrews has shared with us today it's suffering brings a piece and bears the fruit of right it brings joy to her knowing that she can talk with God as a true friend and that the suffering is for the benefit of others cry call us to things that we may not expect but God's plans are greater than our own plans for our lives we can come to understand these better to have in a relationship with Jesus I look upon my friend najarian and I see a saint in the making she's embracing the discipline of the Lord she's embrace suffering with much grace and peace and joy she's caught a glimpse of the father's Vision to bring about peace and joy to others today and everyday let us call to mind one way that we are experiencing suffering let us ask ourselves how can this be a blessing from God if it's Hard 2 Face let us ask God to be with us through it even though we do not understand just talk to God and ask him for his gifts of peace and joy despite our suffering the Lord disciplines us because he loves us
