replacing people's children is one of the happiest occasions for a clergy it's a joyful occasion in the life of a family and life for the parish and Ally for the whole church we're welcoming new numbers into God's people no after the child is baptized the next part of the right is an anointing with the sacred chrism and this is the prayer that accompanies that anointing God the father of our Lord Jesus Christ has freed you from sin giving you a new birth by water in the Holy Spirit and welcomed you into his holy people and I went to see with the Christmas elf as Christ was anointed priest prophet and King so may you live always as members of his body sharing everlasting life priest prophet Game King the threefold mission the priesthood of the baptized we are all called to make sacrifice in our lives for the furtherance of the Kingdom Prophet all of us are called God's word in the world both in our words and in our actions and King a role of leadership all of us are called to lead others to Christ we follow Christ into the Waters of baptism and we follow Christ into these three missions kings and queens and monarchy and royalty and all of this are fairly for into our culture and Society aside from news and gossip about the Brits these are Concepts that are outside of our experience in fact we are a nation born of Revolution against monarchy rule monarchy or dictatorship are seen as repressive and corrupt in our time as the saying goes absolute power corrupts absolutely and there are many examples throughout history the truth of this statement however this is not the ideal or the intent of monarchy and Western Civilization anyway the king represents the ideals of the name and the ideals of his people is Authority spring from these ideals and they were so highly thought of that it was seen as having divine origin his power was to be used for the benefit of his people not for his own Glory or his own wealth it was expected that when necessary the king would make great sacrifice on behalf of his people even putting his life on the line leading his army into battle in defense of the nation the king carries a heavy burden and there's one right or put it no one in their right mind would envy the king loyalty to the king not from fear of his power but respect for the Integrity with which he lived out those ideals and his character and we really don't have examples in government and nationhood of this in our time so I'm going to turn to pop culture if you're in your forties or fifties like I am you saw this movie with your kids. in your 30s you saw it when you were a kid The Lion King Mufasa first of all choosing James Earl Jones The Voice this character was genius Pamela fossa spoke of his role as having a great responsibility he understood it that way not like his son Simba who just can't wait to be king so that he can be free of others telling them what to do or his brothers scar who covered in the power of the of the monarchy Wabasha understood and wanted to teach his son that being Kings putting others first it's a responsibility to five four and protect the pride and every other creature on the Savannah today we acknowledge our Lord Jesus Christ is King of the universe the eye Hills of kingly rule are most wonderfully fulfilled in Jesus Christ one who came not to be served but to serve and to give his life for all extraordinary scriptural images to fall back on today in Our Gospel we see Jesus before Pilate a seeming contradiction the king of the universe powerless and a hands of his enemies from Daniel Psalm 93 in Revelation have you images that we can associate with the second coming in glory the kingdom that is not of this world these images far from one another yet the latter cannot be without the former the Great ACT of him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood also I dropped from the opening prayer this morning Grant we pray that the whole of creation set free from slavery to send May render your majesty service and ceaselessly Proclaim your praise each of us by our baptism is called to this mission of service and praise as priest prophet and King we make Z King known and loved and place and time there is perhaps no better example of this than parents raising their children parents at the baptisms of their children make promises to raise their children in the practice of the faith they are told after making these promises you have asked to have your children baptized and doing so you are accepting the responsibility of training them in the practice of the fee it will be our duty to bring them up to keep God's Commandments as Christ has taught us by loving God and our neighbor now these promises are not made in the vacuum they're made in the context loving Community a supportive community and it's voiced by the godparents who are then asked are you ready to help these parents and their duties as christian mothers and fathers in all of our contacts in life work home school Social Circles everything we are to live out the baptismal mission in the world as Disciples of the king universe some things to think about is my kingship in Christ evidence in my life do I Proclaim his praise in my work then actions do I render him service in my care for others especially those who are least Among Us those who are poor in anyway Outkast on ignore how can I live out my kingship in Christ this week
