about 500 or 600 years before the dawn of Christ the people of God were at their lowest point this was during the Babylonian Exile when moral corruption flourished among the Kings and the clergy of Israel the faith was even compromised due to the widespread infidelity and at this time the nation was conquered the people were carted away to a foreign land and even the temple that place where God resides physical reminder of God's covenant was left in Ruins so imagine the people of God must have felt knowing their election that they were chosen by God as his clothes people but yet experiencing such Scandal shame humiliation goodness even anger does that sound familiar humiliation sadness anger moral corruption widespread infidelity the church left in Ruins it's somewhat easy for us to imagine what they were going through because of the State of Affairs in our own church last week father Wilson spoke into and I want to add my voice to his that I'm with you I feel the same emotions I suffer the same things as you and all the church does in this hour as in the days of Exile many in the church have been wounded many feel abandoned and even alienated by God and the church where they had made their home get this prophecy that we here today in the first reading from Isaiah comes in the midst of this crisis for God's chosen people God says through the profit say to those whose hearts are frightened be strong and fear not here is your god he comes with Vindication with Divine recompence he comes to gave you the eyes of the blind will be opened the ears of the deaf will be cleared then will the lame leap like a stag in the tongue of the mute will sing and for 500 years the people of God waited they watched for Isaiah's prophecy to be completely fulfilled generation after generation Vindication praying for that Divine recompense that was promised praying for healing and their own salvation undoubtedly making reparation for the sins our fathers and then at the beginning of that first century ad Jesus Christ breaks onto the scene God incarnate walks this Earth preaches teaches heels and it comes not only to the Jewish people the chosen but to the Gentile those who had first then outside the family of God he now what I'm in as well and this is the story that we get in the gospel today Jesus coming to a gentile man Jesus fulfilling this prophecy given originally to the people of Israel the prophet Isaiah how old is he Keel this man curing him of his deafness and a speech impediment I'll admit it's more than a little strange how Jesus Chu is Tequila man accounts that Jesus put his finger in the man's ears and spitting touched his tongue Betty looked up the heaven and grown and said to him that is the open you see Jesus heals this man he saved this man with his own body with his finger with his spittle it's an invasive encounter between Jesus and his Gentile Jesus uses the physical the material accomplished his mission in fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecy and I'm convinced Jesus wants to continue to use his body to heal and to save one more to reach out to the poor to teach and make his love felt by those who were wounded those who are abandoned and feel that they are in Exile Jesus certainly does this with his body in the Eucharist and then the other sacraments his real presence in that Ministry of the church but God also wants to save through you yes Jesus wants to save through his body the church it's not just the body in the Eucharist it's the mystical Body of Christ here sitting in these pews this is what we speak of when we talk about the church as a Sacrament the church as sacramental she makes visible what is in visible and we see this I think most clearly when we receive Holy Communion you hear the words the body of Christ and respond amen and that acknowledge is both an acknowledgement of what you receive and who you are the body of Christ and through the pain of our current crisis I have had a great conviction that it's actually a great time to be a priest you see the church has met her quota a bad priest and the church needs good priests and it's actually a good time to be a faithful catholic christian disciple because this is what the world needs In This Moment good priests and good fam husbands Sons & Daughters we might ask her be tempted to say what does all that matter what's the point of my discipleship why should I invest in a particular Parish that's part of a greater wounded Church and I would answer this that the world needs your discipleship the church in the midst of necessary reform repentance reparation needs your investment and you need it to you need those healing words of God you need that salvation that God offers to you through your discipleship an answering the call to invest here at All Saints to share your to make sacrifices to serve the church here and elsewhere that answer is a choice to be part of God's solution to the problems that we All Steel in our church of course this weekend is our annual discipleship fair so I have to talk about some of the Practical details that are going to happen a little later after Mass they're being Cherry to visit a lot of booze there a lot of  in the hall going down the hallway here upstairs and then downstairs into Murphy Hall you haven't seen it yet it looks like the state fair there's a lot of booze out there and just like the fair when you exit church today you'll get a reusable grocery bag with all the All Saints logo on it and you can use this bag as you go through the differ from booze to put your swag in different swag today at the booze and we encourage you visit these booze not necessarily as a commitment today but as a sign or an expression that you're interested that you are some interest in finding more information out about our Parish Ministries and helping their about signing up your children for fep or being a catechist looking at our adult formation through Bible studies how to rcia through Eucharistic adoration in the like when you visit a booth today you'll get a sticker with our logo on it and that'll be good for after Mass down in Murphy Hall we have a free omelette breakfast provided by Knights and I'll be for your whole family just with that one sticker how many courage you make your way all the way down the hall and down to Murphy Hall so you get to see all the  all of those opportunities to share sacrifice answer brothers and sisters today I urge to step up to the plate during this moment of crisis in a church is history be that visible sign of Christ's body through which God will heal and save the world
