its meaning to honor God is a pretty fitting name for a priest don't you think my last name my polish name ratkowski I have no idea what that means in the Bible so many X names have great meaning you can make a Saint Peter his original name was Simon in Jesus rename Sim Peter he says which means Rock and Upon This Rock I will build my church and also in the Christmas story we hear of of the Angel telling Joseph that that marry the one to whom he's betrothed will conceive and bear a son and they shall name him Emmanuel which means God is with us and that is what we're celebrating today right especially if we are welcoming god with us we are welcoming Jesus been preparing for that all of Advent it throughout the readings this this expectation of a coming and we celebrate that welcoming of Jesus into our lives in a special way by liberating his birth over 2000 years ago but how did that come about we know well that Joseph and Mary go to Bethlehem and Mary is pregnant with Jesus she's about to give birth and there's no room for them in the Inn because there's no room for them they seek shelter in a Stabler kind of cave and Jesus is broke born and he's laid in a feeding trough a Manger the lord of the universe being laid in a feeding trough for animals no he can have a sort of romantic idea about the manger scene you have a beautiful one you know I remember the one growing up as a kid that we have underneath our Christmas tree and it's all the figures look very nice and their lights around it and I think this one even has grapes grapes I'm not sure if Joseph and Mary found grapes and they're stable and their manger scene in Bethlehem but there's a certain warmthness that we that we have when we look upon that manger scene right but if you really think about it Joseph and Mary they weren't a very sore family I mean can you imagine giving birth to your first born son and have a dirty environment do animals running around straw the stuff that animals leave behind you know all that there Messi it's messy so I can ask all the ladies ladies can you imagine having your first child in that kind of environment or Channel Mikey imagine your pregnant wife giving birth to your first born son and laying that Sunday feeding trough for animals the situation at Mary and Joseph found themselves in was far from ideal especially by our standards and that made you seem really Xpressbet less-than-ideal situation you know that glass and ideal situations that often times we wouldn't choose for ourselves but for whatever reason God still comes God comes to dwell with us in that manger of all the places he could have chosen to dwell in his first hours as the God man on Earth he chose that manger scene chooses to be with us in his first hours in that way real that Christmas is a holy and a sacred time right how were the presidents since Christmas cookies we also where I have a little bit of that messiness that less-than-ideal state of Our Lives to be kind of family relations of our personal struggles at seem to rise this time of year maybe past hurts during which new changes in our lives in the past year and especially our own imperfections in the ways that you know we struggle and say how many of these things we know we wouldn't choose for ourselves right it's on the messiness of the major that represents for us a little bit of the messiness of Our Lives and then we think that get everything in order yo that God can can come almost like you know I'm real going up as a kid you know hosting a family for Christmas and all the sudden everything you need to be clean and everything to be Immaculate both upstairs I'm downstairs but now it's not the case with our God who comes to us God comes to us in the messiness he chooses to come to us not in spite of it but almost because of it and for this reason today as a recent poll Point said we know that as in the times of Jesus Christmas isn't it the fairy tale we tell around the fire sipping hot cocoa but it's God's response to the drama of humanity to our drama that drama of searching for true peace and that piece is only able to be given through God through Jesus Christ dwelling with him here and fully realize forever in heaven what is the authentic Joy of these times welcome in the one who wants to dwell with us as our savior he's with us today he's with us in our daily prayers he is with us in his body to church this community he gives his life to us in baptism he gives his Mercy to us he's present as the merciful father to the mercy of reconciliation I need to especially present his body in the Eucharist is the major scene with all the figures of Mary Joseph Jesus the angels where were the Animals lead to Heinz all that chaos doesn't make sense unless there is a crib that is not empty but in which lies a baby Jesus the god-man just in the same way the messiness of Our Lives that less-than-ideal state doesn't make sense unless price The Babe resides there at the Center for Families of Our Lives end of our hearts drawing there as God With Us who has dwelt Among Us and continues to dwell Among Us now that we may as well with him and his father forever in heaven where true peace and true Joy will abound
