Baptism Preparation

Children are a miracle, a gift from God’s hand to parents’ hearts. God has called your child into being and loves your child in a deeply personal way.  Jesus desires to give your child a sharing in his Life through the gift of Baptism. The All Saints community is delighted when parents choose to have their children baptized in the Catholic faith!

The Catholic Church recognizes Baptism as an essential gift of God's grace. The responsibility to prepare and support parents as they plan to bring their child to the baptismal font as well as continue that relationship beyond the day of Baptism is a ministry of service and teaching.

All Saints has established an approach to Baptism that seeks to respond to the various needs and concerns of parents. We recognize that the questions of first-time parents, or families returning to parish life after a lengthy absence, are different from those who have multiple children and have a consistent relationship with the parish.  It is our hope that all families preparing for and celebrating the Sacrament of Baptism will experience the grace and love of Christ.

Infant - Age 6

Parents attend two Baptism Preparation sessions in order to enter into deeper relationship with God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.  We also hope that you will continue to grow in your understanding of our Catholic Faith and in your relationship with this community.  Godparents and Christian witnesses are welcome to attend preparation sessions as well.

If you have not had a child baptized in this community before, we ask that parents attend our Baptism Preparation sessions.  This experience serves as an introduction to the parish, giving you time to meet fellow parishioners and to get connected to the various opportunities to grow in your faith within the All Saints community.

Parents can choose to attend preparation sessions either Thursday evenings or Sunday mornings throughout the year. For more information or questions regarding the two-session course, contact Nicky Schafer at [email protected] or (952) 985-9982.

Order of Christian Initiation of Children (OCIC)

Ages 7 - 12

Families with children age 7-13 who would like to prepare for Baptism are prepared for the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist) through the Order of Christian Initiation for Children (OCIC). These sacraments are received at Easter. OCIC consists of 2-3 sessions per month that run from September—May and align with our adult OCIA program. Sessions are all on Sunday from 10-11am.

Preparation for Baptism: Adults and Teens

For older teens and adults seeking Baptism, contact Chris Kuhn for more information at (952) 469-6480 or [email protected]. Generally, adults and older teens prepare for and celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism in connection to the parish through OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults... formerly RCIA). This formation program assists people in learning more about life in the Catholic faith. The candidates for OCIA will celebrate the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation at Easter Vigil Services.
