The Preparation and Celebration of Marriage

Archdiocesan policy dictates that marriage formation must begin at least six months prior to the scheduled wedding. This will require the couple to contact the parish office (952-469-4481) 9-12 months prior to a desired wedding date. Preparation includes meetings with a priest or deacon, a FOCCUS inventory with an assigned mentor couple, and attending a 6-week Pre-Marriage Formation Program offered at All Saints.

Residency Policy:

If you are considering getting married at All Saints, please be aware of our residency policy. If out of school and employed, the person to be married must be registered in his/her own name and be an active member of the parish for at least one year prior to setting the date for the wedding. If still in school, not yet fully employed, and living with parents, the parent family must be registered and active members one year prior to the setting of a wedding date.

Christian marriage is distinct from secular marriage from the start. Our secular understanding of marriage begins with the relationship of the two individuals. In Christian marriage, we begin with God. As Christians, we believe that two people can accept each other in obedience, fidelity, and love, only because God has already unconditionally accepted them and loves them. We are only able to enter into binding human relationships because God has entered into a covenant relationship with us. In accepting this prior bond with God, a married couple accepts and welcomes the God covenant into their marriage covenant. Christian marriage does not exist without the presence of God.

Our Catholic traditions and doctrines affirm that covenant is at the essence of the Sacrament of Marriage. Marriage is a sign of Christ. The relationship between husbands and wives is more than a symbol of the love of God. These relationships are the revelation of the love of God made incarnate in Jesus Christ. By definition as Sacrament, marriage participates in the sanctifying service of Christ. Marriage is intended to serve and glorify God. Marriage is the sign of God’s Covenant with God’s people, the church. The marriage relationship as Sacrament is a public witness of the whole communities’ fidelity, obedience, and love of God. The whole of married life is the sign of our covenant with God.
