hopefully the technical difficulty on the microphone is now resolved it was a human error mine okay alright we'll just just clear it up right alright very good it's beautiful to be out here and God is definitely good and and allowing us in our first attempt at least admike history here of of coming outside for offer Mass not going to be labor point but I have a long history of doing outdoor masses this might be the best weather I've ever done it in so thanks be to God for that right carite over the years and I suspect there's a few of you in the in in the crowd this morning that have that have told me this they've they've said you know what father if I ever win the lottery I'm going to do big things for All Saints I'm going to do big things for All Saints if I Berwyn those those relatively frequent conversations I've always wanted to say you know what if I win the lottery I'll do something big for All Saints too but I couldn't do it I could not do it because I've never bought a lottery ticket in my life okay I would be lying if I said if I won the lottery I don't even buy a ticket so this week I tried it I might my streak of not buying a lottery ticket is over is not over it continues right but I but I slid through and the linguistic gymnastics allowed me to to send a little money with an agent who bought the ticket for me okay so have not purchased it but I own it okay it's it's it's right here alright and so if I would have won the lottery last night I would have done big things for All Saints but as expected say I didn't win okay not only didn't did I not win I didn't match one single number from the computer-generated ticket right my 30-year decision for not purchasing is good okay it's a it's a good financial decision right but the truth is that and I did a little I did a little research and found out that somebody who would have purchased a lottery ticket has about a 1in 293.2 million chance of winning the the big jackpot okay it's not zero but it's about as close as you can get okay it's about as close as you can get but even the desire or even the desire in the heart of summit it says you know what if the ship comes in the ship comes in and I receive something big I am going to share that is it that is the desire of of a true disciple of Jesus Christ the desire to receive something and then to be able to set then to be able to share it right and we're in season of year not just at All Saints but parishes and other Faith communities all over the all over the country probably the world where we begin to think about our generosity we begin to think and reflect on the on the gifts that the guy is his given to us right and he's giving us these he's giving us these gifts specifically to be shared where they're there their talents or material benefits or or whatever but we're given them and we understand we understand as odd as disciples as followers of Christ that it is our it is Our obligation it's what we do as as people of Faith to to share them and and it's a it's a good thing right it brings the best out in our community brings the best out of our send it it's a great thing but I readings today take a little bit different spin on that whole idea of of generosity and sharing the gifts cuz Jesus in the in in the parable and in the Gospel reading mention anything about the stuff that God gives us does not mention anything about the stuff what he mentions okay what he mentions is Mercy and it's abundantly clear right it does not take a scripture Fowler does not take a scripture scholar digging down into the into the Linguistics and all of the of the scripture to find out what Jesus is saying in the in the parable when Peter asks about the necessity of forgiveness Peter Stan's that there is a necessity for forgiveness and he thinks he's being generous when he says seven times Jesus response is not a mathematical it's not putting a limit on the number of times we are to forgive and it's so it gives us the parable reminding us reminding us that we have all received in abundance the grace and the forgiveness and the mercy of God we've all received it and the expectation of then sharing it with people in our lives is absolute it is absolute it is not a suggestion it is not a good idea it is not the the place of heroism that only a few people are going to reach but every single one of us and Jesus gives us his Parable I thinking we see we see a little bit of in NC rack as well reminding any any goes after it right away why does he go after this issue right away somebody receiving it and then not giving it I suspect because it rest so substantially in the hearts of almost all of us almost all of us we we eat we rejoice in the mercy that God is giving us we've been a flash with forgiveness to the sacraments in our relationships at all but it can be very very difficult than to take what we have received and share it with other people it could be very very difficult to do that and so we don't Jesus says you know what if you are to be a credible community of Disciples of Christ this is what you do you receive the gift of God's mercy and then you share it with other people it's the first thing that we do and we he tells us to do this because we need to because we need to how many of us can quickly make a list of our own Rowlett Ron workplace Piers people in our Lives who we know have hung onto things in their life that make the miserable and unhappy because of the wound in the past maybe something that happened yesterday maybe something open 35 years ago but they hold on to it and and we can see you can just see it in in in the way they express themselves Our Lives when we do that we we are not fun people to be around we can be miserable people and so Jesus is you don't let that go take the mercy give the mercy let that go and then experience the fullness of who we can be as Disciples of Jesus Christ we know we have do that cheer access holding onto the rap and the Vengeance that's what Sinners do that's what Sinners do that's not what people who have received and in are responding to the call Jesus as a disciple do we go out and forgive Pope Francis is talked about the concept and idea of Mercy since basically day one of his papacy right and one of our first challenges as a people of faith is to be credible this is to Mercy and we can't do it within our own families and our own Community we can't possibly do it outside into the world that needs to see that that needs to see that how many of us how many of us probably list our friends and neighbors maybe even some of our our own relatives that we know should be here with us on this lawn this morning but they're not here because somewhere along the line there wasn't an act Mercy somebody hurt down there was some interaction whatever that that that irritated caused the wound and so they're not here it harms our community right it harms our community Parish families without Mercy shrivel up and die with the mercy of God receiving it and sharing it with each other they live they live and they breed and they make more and more Disciples of Jesus Christ and we know we're supposed to do this this is not a new revelation to anyone of us we know we are supposed to forgive but we don't sometimes and why not the reasons are legion hear it all the time might be the number one conversation that I have with people who are struggling spiritually father I can't forgive the wound is too deep the wound is too deep I can forgive anything stop this one thing that happened to me by this one person long ago maybe when you are tragically it's somebody who should have never possibly done this was a person of trust in my life that betrayed and hurt me can't forgive but I do think I do think that the reality is why we don't do it is because it's hard it is hard on a natural level to go up to someone has wounded us and heard us and say you are forgiven is a very very difficult thing to do what a great thing it might be during this week for every single one of us cuz we all got it alright we've all got it our families are other relationships of people that have heard us that have wounded us that have harmed us that we need to forgive bring that to prayer God who do I need to forgive and God it is very very hard for me to do how do I do it and therein lies the answer that we bring it to the Lord we allow the Lord's Grace to work on our hearts because we do this we we show Mercy not on a natural level but a supernatural level at its God's grace working in our hearts that allows us to do it when God touches our heart and we allow him to do it softens it we can humble cells and then we can be instruments of Mercy with our own families and the world around us back to the lottery ticket the losing lottery tickets okay alright the truth is it seem able to win the lottery okay it is it is simply impossible chances are basically zero right the chances of receiving the gift of God's mercy are 100% its 100 percent I will take that bet anytime as a very very conservative person I will take that one hundred percent every single time but that 100% also comes with a command and a how have you that when we have received it we also share it with others so that we can be a credible witness of the presence of God in in the world that people will see us and say this is a he reconciled and merciful Community I want to be part of that Jesus in his in his in his conversation about Mercy never says I think this is a good idea I suggest you do it as you must do it you must do it and we only do it through his grace and we have mercy in our lives After we receive it from from the generosity and kindness and love of God and we share others because that is what disciples do
