Liturgical Linens

Care for the liturgical linens used at Mass (purificators, corporals, and altar cloths) requires patience and a special kind of care, because they can become stained by the Precious Blood.  The linens are soaked in cold water for eight hours to draw out any remaining Precious Blood.  Out of reverence for our Lord, the water used to soak the linens is disposed of by pouring it directly into the ground.  After the linens are soaked and the Precious Blood has been removed, they can be washed in a washing machine with regular laundry detergent, then ironed to prepare them to be used at Mass again.

Volunteers pick up dirty linens between Tuesday and Thursday, and return them between Tuesday and Thursday of the following week. Volunteers are typically scheduled on a rotating basis every six weeks.
