I love to hear people tell their stories and I've had a lot of opportunities for this as a newly ordained priest stories of conversion and making a greater commitment we heard a few weeks ago with Randy and Mary best two of our parishioners also this the story of married couples telling me how they first met usually around the dinner table in your homes I love to ask engaged couples why they're getting married why at this time in their life they are choosing to commit to one another for as long as they both shall live give me a similar story that they're in love they want to commit to one another to have a family to make this next step in their Journey haven't had anyone tell me yet they're being forced into marriage which is a really good thing when the sacraments at stake but in some regard it would be much easier to go throughout our whole lives about committing to anything tonight making a step of Faith rather you see hedge our bets you'll not make that step of commitment right away this is what the world would teach us to do that it's safer it's a better decision not to commit that somehow and not committing you would have greater Freedom you wouldn't be tight down think of someone inviting you over to their home say on a Friday evening do you say yes right away what about all those other options that are out there what if some better comes along so the world would say as consumers that we shouldn't commit so readily that it's going to take away our freedom when in actuality we're actually more free when we commit think of a married couple a man and a woman who have joined together in marriage there more free to live their lives in service of this one they're not looking around anymore for who their spouse will be they've committed and therefore their Freer to enter in to commitment think of when you're at a restaurant and you have this menu that has thousands of items there's a lot of anxiety and choosing just one you see when we lack commitments there can actually be greater anxiety a slavery to all of the options that are out there and this idea of commitment is prevalent in our scriptures today that we would commit to this mountain the mountain where the Lord will provide for us we commit to this Shepherd other Shepherd because this Shepherd knows how to feed his sheep knows and loves the gospel Parable we commit to this wedding Feast not going to any other nourishment other than this one you see in the parable all were invited but only a few were chosen only a few were able to stay forward and make that commitment to come to the feast and your baby wondering about this man who showed up not dressed properly okay did he sneak into church that day without his card well if that happened will take care of it maybe two goes in flip-flops or just wasn't looking the best that wasn't it you see it was the lack of commitment and Beak cuz he hadn't committed he couldn't partake in the wedding Feast one way that we can look at this scripture is that he hadn't been washed in the waters of baptism and therefore he couldn't partake in the Eucharistic Feast that the king had prepared for him see brothers and sisters we were made to be consumers we were made to be communers when we commit this gives us more freedom for communion this is what we've been called to to commune not to consume so each you have been mailed a commitment card I got mine of my belt here I'll pull it out if you have your commitment card that you received in the mail or that you received and walking into mass today pull that out right now we're going to walk through this the car together and then taking the opportunity to fill it out and then bring It Forward because here at All Saints we have this opportunity today to commit to commit to Greater freedom and communion on your card there's a space for two adults there's usually two adults in each household if you need another one for more adults you can get one at the back after Mass and your children will do their commitment in their sap classes tried the form there are three sections we want you to fill out each of those three sections for the two adults in your household the sharing the sacrifice and the service sections these are things that your heading to for the first time or things that you've already committed to and for the financial peace if you're giving electronically you need to fill out another Form that EFT form if you're starting a new game or if you're changing your old gift so that's another form that you would need to fill out if you don't have one of these commitment cards or you have questions about the process you can go to the fellowship table in the back the connection Adobe someone there from the discipleship ship team who will be able to help you walk you through it and give you one of the cards but that's at this time we're going to have some music playing and during that music want you to discern fill out your card and then come forward when you have that card filled out there's a basket right here by this mom and during the music when you're finished we want you to come forward which might be a risk step of faith and commit to our Lord because he's calling us each to the Eucharistic banquet and if we commit then we are free for communion so fill out your forms and bring them forward as you're ready
