All Saints and the good people of Dominica

(2011)

On January 28, 2011, parishioners from All Saints Church will leave the cold of Minnesota to once again to join up with the Good News Group and travel to the island of Dominica in the West Indies. Dominica has breath taking natural beauty, warm friendly people, and wide spread poverty. Volunteers work with the poor in some of the most remote areas of the island. Air transportation, stable democratic government, and the use of the English language make this island suitable for short term volunteer activities. Most importantly, Good News is welcomed and encouraged by church and civic leaders.

Volunteers pay their own travel and living expenses (about $1500 each). Financial support for building materials, medical and craft supplies, tools, administration and other expenses come from fund raising activities, and donations from individual and corporations, and private grants.

Accommodations include clean sleeping rooms toilets and shower facilities. We even have hot water (sometimes). Veteran members have great memories of living with extended families, sharing prayers, recreation and meals.

If you would enjoy helping with carpentry, painting, medicine, teaching, or music - you will fit into our activities. Come and join our All Saints Church group consisting of Charlene and Duane Breid, Claudia and Bob Demo, my wife Sue, and myself. (Believe me this is a great way to spend a winter vacation). Good News volunteers return home with a stronger commitment to public service, a better understanding of a developing country, and renewed faith in their personal values. When you get back home I guarantee you will have an unusual vacation story to tell). Please contact me if you would like to join us or need additional information.

Contributions to the Good News Group are much needed and are sincerely appreciated. You may wish to donate a total house for $3000. That would be very special. But whatever the amount it will go to a very worthwhile cause. Please make your check out to the Good News Group and send to me.

This year we look forward to witnessing the rebuilding of St. Andrews Church and bring home to you an update on that activity. Again many, many thanks for your contributions you have made to the rebuilding of St. Andrews Church. Keep it up. The parishioners need your help.
